Trying to add just one more hour only to find that the app is forcing a 24-hour rate (or no option at all) can be confusing. Here is the lowdown on why extension options change depending on when and where you’re parking.
HONK provides the platform, but the lot operators decide which rates are available at any given time.
Flat Rates: Many locations switch to Flat Rates during evenings or weekends. If an operator only offers a $10 evening flat rate, the app cannot offer you a $2 hourly rate for that same period.
Minimums: Some zones don’t offer small increments (like 15 or 30 minutes). If the smallest block of time the operator allows is one hour, that will be your only starting option for an extension.
Some municipalities have by-laws in parking zones that have a Maximum—an amount of time you can purchase before you are cut-off from purchasing more time. This is to help turnover in busy downtown cores.
Once you have paid for enough time to hit that maximum, the app will stop allowing extensions.
At this point, you are expected to move your vehicle. The maximums reset after 30 minutes after the expiry of your max time allotment.

Progressive Pricing & Peak Demand
In high-traffic areas, operators may use Progressive Pricing. As a lot fills up, they might restrict short-term options to save the final remaining spots for all-day parkers. If you notice that hourly options have disappeared, it’s often because the lot is reaching capacity and the operator has shifted to "Daily" rates only.
