At HONK, we work closely with municipalities and private operators to ensure parking is fair and accessible for everyone. If you’re finding that the app won't let you add more time, you’ve likely hit a Maximum Stay Limit.
Many locations—especially on-street parking or high-traffic zones—are governed by local city by-laws designed to encourage turnover. These rules prevent a single vehicle from occupying a spot all day, making room for other visitors, shoppers, or students.
To stay compliant with these by-laws, the HONK system is programmed to enforce a "cool-down" period once you've reached the maximum allowed duration (e.g., a 2-hour or 4-hour limit).
Once your maximum session expires, the app will not allow that specific license plate to start a new session in the same zone for at least 30 minutes.
If you need to stay in the area longer than the maximum limit allows, here is how to avoid a citation:
- Relocate Your Vehicle: Move your car to a different parking zone or a nearby long-term lot that doesn't have a short-term cap.

Check On-Site Machines: In some municipal zones, you may be able to purchase additional time at a physical pay station, though we always recommend moving your vehicle to be 100% safe from by-law enforcement.
